All part of the Interior decorator training…

So, our young apprentice was doing very well, running his project to time, organised, cheerful and starting to relax a tiny bit , content that all the decorating was suiting the client as well as satisfying the eagle eyed foreman – and then all stop!

Phone call to the office to say that a change of specificati0n was happening, ripping out of some lighting , and despite the fact that we have completely finished some areas, our apprentice was asked to clear his equipment, and pull off site.

Hopefully we will go back and his impetus wont be lost -it presented an opportunity to discuss cost implications with him, although he is upset, not getting the satisfaction of a completed job well done etc, its a fact of life that can happen to any interior decorator at any level.   We talked about getting his paperwork signed off by the site manager, confirming what’s been done to date , & to be aware that when we return we will need to have repenished materials available, matching colour batches & possibility of extra costs where we have to redo areas that have been damaged & so on. There is extra work too, as a record has to be made of part used materials prior to return to stores,  - teaching a youngster that this is boring but necessary housekeeping , especially as he may be asked to return to site with little notice, and it wastes time & money if  all his stuff has been misplaced.

No work due to poor organisation = no pay. It’s not least an opportunity to talk about who will want to pay us for re-doing our work, & the possibility that we may not be paid for some time. Work done to date has to be signed off through several layers of people etc. and we cannot complete the contract until new items have been installed and other trades done their bit, again!

Deveraux Decorators are Interior Decorators of distinction who are based in the Midlands, but work all over the UK.
